Yakusugi Sake Cups x 2 - Japanese Pottery
2 x Yakusugi Sake Cups
An exquisite set of sake cups made in Yakushima, Japan from Yakusugi (Japanese Cedar). This is a very beautiful, but strong, light-weight wood with a very natural look, as is common among items made from Yakusugi. This wood is no longer being cut-down in Japan, so items made from it are especially rare these days.
When drinking from cups made of Yakusugi, expect a little smell/flavour of the wood to be infused in your beverage. This is one of the main appeals of Yakusugi items.

What does Yakusugi mean?
Yakusugi (屋久杉) refers to "Japanese cedar" (sugi, or Cryptomeria) on the island of Yakushima, typically growing at altitudes 500 meters and higher. The term also extends to the lumber taken from the logging of these coniferous trees.
